BCD Semiconductor Manufacturing (NASDAQ:BCDS) is a Chinese company which manufactures analog integrated circuits. BCD focuses on power management semiconductors that are sold to Asian electronics firms. In particular, personal computers, flat screen televisions, monitors, and mobile phone chargers. These semiconductors allow the electronic system to use less electricity, preserve the battery life, and improve the overall stability of the electric system. In addition to the manufacturing of analog semiconductors, BCD also employs approximately 290 engineers who research and design future products.[1]
BCD is based in China and focuses and selling its products to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs). BCD's products have been used in systems sold by more than 2,000 different OEM and ODM firms. According to Gartner (IT), an IT research firm, China is currently the largest market for semiconductors. Gartner forecasts that the global market analog power management integrated circuits, the products made by BCD, will grow from $5.6B in 2009 to $9.4B in 2014.[2]
The company's initial public offering of stock on the NASDAQ occurred on January 27, 2011. The company offered 6M ADSs each for $10.50. The initial price range for the deal was $10.50-$12.50, but the deal priced at the low end of the range. The lead underwriters of the deal were Jefferies Group (JEF) and Stifel Financial (SF).[3]
BCD's full year revenue for 2009 was $101M. This was a 15% increase over the $88M announced for 2008, and it surpasses the $99M announced for 2007. For the first 9 months of 2010, BCD's total revenue was $101M. For 2009, BCD reported a net income of $6.9M, which compares to a net loss of $4.8M in 2008 and a slight net income in 2007 $.6M. For teh first 9 months of 2010, BCD's net income was $16.7M.[4]
