The BSE TECk Index represents the most frequently traded stocks in the Indian Telecom, Media, and Telecommunications (TMT) sectors. In 1990s, TMT sector had a remarkable growth in the financial market. It has become a major force in the Indian economy. Recognizing the growing importance of the TMT sector, BSE TECk index was launched in July 11, 2001.
Approximately, 19% of the turnover on the stock exchanges was TMT sector stocks. These stocks collectively account for 15% of the total market capitalization. The investment interest in technology stocks continues unabated. The index was launched with base year of index of 2001 and with base index value of 1000. The index is calculated on free-float market capitalization method with frequency of 15 seconds. Number of companies vary in the index as it aims to represent minimum 90% market capitalization of BSE-500 index
