BWAY Holding Company (BWY) is a leader in the packaging industry. The company generated $959 million in revenue in FY2007. BWY was re-issued to the public in 2007 after being held by private equity firm Kelso Investment Associates.
The company has a metal packaging division and a plastics packaging division. The metal packaging division includes products such as paint cans, aerosol cans, ammunition boxes, steel pails and "F"-style cans. The plastics division includes products such as: plastic drums, plastic paint bottles, food packaging and chemical packaging. The company is the dominant US (and Canadian) player for many of the products it produces. Using 2006 revenue numbers the company estimates it has an 81% market share in metal paint cans, 75% in metal specialty cans, 87% in ammunition boxes, 85% in plastic paint bottles and 67% in plastic tight-head containers. It is the clear #1 producer for the US market in each of these products. Additionally, BWY is the leading producer of steel and plastic pails in Canada.
The company supplies many leading consumer companies. Its top customer is Sherwin Williams, which accounted for ~16% of revenue in 2007. BWAY designed a new plastic paint container to be used exclusively by Sherwin Williams.
