On the background of a tradition beyond 70 years of commodities-trade exchanges which started to function in the first years of the 18th century according to western countries model, the Romanian history records the establishment of the first stock exchange in 1881, when, after adopting the Law on exchanges, exchange and commodities brokers, this institution characteristic to a market economy started to become visible within the Romanian economic environment. Based on the French model, this law stipulated, by royal decree, the establishment of commodities and stock exchanges. Bucharest Stock Exchange was inaugurated on the 1st of December 1882 , in the Trade Chamber building located in Doamnei street, while the quotation lists of the first Romanian traded corporations were published in December 1882 in the Official Journal of Romania. The 1989 Revolution, which signified an important turning point in our national history, has imperatively imposed, through the resulting reform programme, the necessity to recover the capital market and its related institutions, including BSE. A group of specialists in various economic sectors benefited the chance, sometimes asserted as unique in a lifetime, to recover this market, the starting point of this process being represented by year 1992. The recovery process was not easy. Starting with the legislative area two years were necessary until the adoption of Law no. 5 /1994 on transferable securities and stock exchanges accompanied by measures of educating the general public with regard to some concepts forgotten for a long time or never known in the past. This process is still going on, all those involved learning new things every day, this imposing a dynamism usually characteristic only to young people.
