Morgan Stanley China A Share Fund (CAF) is one of the few exchange-traded funds available to invest in the Chinese stock market. The Fund seeks capital growth by investing, at least 80% of its assets in A Shares of Chinese companies listed on the Shanghai stock exchange and Shenzhen stock exchange. The Fund may invest up to 15% of its net assets, in warrants, structured investments or other Strategic Transactions. The Fund may also invest up to 20% of its assets in other types of investments, including B-shares of companies listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges. The Fund is the first U.S. registered investment company that will invest principally in China A Shares.
For most of 2007, CAF is traded more than 15% below NAV constantly. Similar (but less) discount is also found in Morgan Stanley India Investment Fund (IIF).
