To provide a fuehtrr update on the Gmail data loss it was caused by a storage software update. To confirm there were around 40,000 Gmail accounts affected meaning users lost access to their archive of emails, contacts and IM chats.What has been revealed is that Google are attempting to recover the data from an offline tape solution, which as we all know is a slow and manual process.Maybe if Google had a WAN optimised disk to disk backup solution this would have made the process faster and more streamlined ensuring customers can have their data back quicker!
