Congestion

The area between resistance, and support. [1] A box is created when the security trades within a rectangle formation. This is characterized by prices trading within a narrow range. [1]

A box is basically an area of consolidation. For whatever reason, the market has decided the stock should neither advance nor decline appreciably, but rather idle sideways. [2]

Typically, the support level can be thought of as the level at which many buyers tend to enter a security. [2] The original low price level becomes a support area because investors will believe that prices will again rise above that level. [3] Typically, the resistance level can be thought of as the level at which many buyers tend to sell a security. [4]

15c congestion from, "action of gathering together.”

14c support from, bring up, up from under, portare "to carry." Sense of "that which supports" is from 1560s. [3]

15c résistance, earlier resistence. [4] From 14c., to resist, to take a stand, stand firm. [5]
