A fixed-rate mortgage is a mortgage loan that has a fixed interest rate over its entire duration. The most common durations are 15 and 30 year mortgage loans, although some banks may be willing to issue them for up to 50 years. Fixed-rate mortgages are often more expensive, but less riskier, than adjustable-rate mortgages.
