Retail gasoline prices hit all-time highs on Friday in several U.S. Midwestern cities due to maintenance and outages at refineries in the region resulting in a tightening of supplies, according to industry analysts.

April inflation well under forecast

Cheaper gasoline and cars helped Canada's annual inflation rate fall dramatically in April to 0.4% from 1% in March, below expectations and well outside the Bank of Canada's target range of 1-3%. It was the lowest since 0.1% in October 2009.

Gasoline is a mixture of hydrocarbons used primarily in the fueling of internal combustion engines (e.g. automobile engines). Gasoline prices generally follow crude oil prices. The commodity trades on the NYMEX and is valued in US dollars per gallon.

The chart at left shows continuos front-month futures prices for RBOB Gasoline traded on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Prices, Ticker, and Delivery Dates

RBOB Gasoline futures contracts are traded on the New York Mercantile Exchange under ticker symbol RB and are delivered every month of the year. (For more information on commodity tickers, check out the commodity ticker construction page.)
