Agenda

Our agenda will be centered around new ideas for products on Wikinvest. In particular, how can we make the best:

  • Portfolio
  • Alerts
  • Executives Pages
  • SEC Filings

Also, we'll be talking about ways to improve our new products:

  • How can we make news more user-interactive
  • What about data?
  • What do you like / hate about the new platform?

Hermann

  • Now that we can view all this data, he wants to be able to search for companies based on metrics (stock screener) and wants to be able to combine searches
    • Also, he wants to be able to use both numerical searches (P/E < 1) as well as qualitative industry searches (P/B is Very Low for the industry)
  • Would certainly flag news items if it were possible -- often notices warren buffett "the oracle" in the oracle company news feed
  • Only really follows news for items in his portfolio
    • Wants an RSS feed for company news as well as his own, custom portfolio news
    • Wants an alert that new news has been delivered to his portfolio but NOT an email. SImply an indication on Wikinvest that he should go to his portfolio, almost like an inbox
    • Similarly, wants an indication/alert on Wikinvest related to share price moves -- significant percentage changes, price changes
    • In general, the email alert idea did not sound that interesting to him
  • Executives -- he was really interested in this as a fundamentals investor who wants to know management's track record
    • He'd like to see share prices of companies while the executive was at the company
    • If there's any way we can see a record of their fulfilling responsibilities (i.e., filing SEC filings on time, meeting contract responsibilities)
    • Would be interested in the ability to rate executives based on various criteria
  • Would like to see all of our commodities pages have charts in the top left (futures as well as 'prices') pages. He uses commodities pages as an indicator for his equities
  • SEC Filings aren't particularly interesting, but the ability to link to specific locations in the filings is, espeically with regards to our industry / revenue sources data

Isabelle

  • Make the "edit" link a different color, a button, or anything else that makes it more noticeable. Same goes for the links hidden behind "More"
  • RSS Feed for company news is a must!
    • Would certainly flag news items if given the option
    • Would like to see the ability to view MSM, Blogs, and Press Releases separately
  • Would love to be able to get top market news from homepage
    • Would also love to customize market news around interests -- for example, Asian markets, French markets, and Technology / IT
  • Would love to see international pages as well as private company pages. The example she gave was that she wanted an Opel page (even though its owned by GM)
    • Lots of other international markets could use Wikinvest as their primary distribution platform rather than Google / Yahoo Finance; particularly, eastern european markets
  • Would like to see a "Share This" widget so she can share articles, data pages, etc. on various social media platforms to increase exposure
  • Really misses the shelf; would like to see this made up for with a portfolio feature
  • Also, see Isabelle's comments on the discussion page

David

  • Go for depth whenever possible, extend the data platform to cover more, to make it easier to browse, etc. -- then go for more breadth
  • Uses Wikinvest as a sanity check after he comes up with his own investment ideas
  • In a portfolio product, he'd reall want to know when volume for a particular stock changed considerably. Did it go up or down by 10%, 25%?
    • Similarly, when a companie earnings come out, does it change their standing among the industry from AVG to HIGH, LOW to AVG, etc.
    • For his portfolio, he really wants forward looking information -- when is the company issuing dividends, when is it issuing guidance, earnings, etc? Also, when's the government issuing data like unemployment, federal funds rate, etc? Wherever possible, chart previous values with the announcement.
  • Would love to see headlines scrolling at the bottom of the screen
  • Would love dettachable elements like major indices, self-chosen tickers, news headlines so he can keep widgets on his desktop (he uses two screens, uses interactive brokers for real-time quotes / trades)
  • Would also like to see comments from top people like Buffett, Roubini re: the economy
Isayel 02:48, July 21, 2009 (PDT) I also support the idea of a WIDGET, that user can customize with data he is interested in. It is a key tool for nowadays website.

Jack

  • Would like to see definitions / articles display first few lines of text on hover.
  • We NEED to have EPS data, future estimates for dividends, revenue, cash flow, etc.
  • Hasn't really used the newsfeeds, more of a data geek
  • Wants to be able to separate companies as my portfolio and my research list as well as a summary page
    • More interested in announcements / news for portfolio, more interested in data for research / watchlist
    • Insider buying is a good thing to include in a feed about his portfolio
  • Not really interested in alerts
  • Really interested in options -- would like to see options outstanding, trading levels, etc. (I'm emailing him further about options)
  • Out of SEC Filings, Executives, and International pages, he was most interested in international pages
  • Also, see Jack's comments on the discussion
