Nevada-based Meridian Gold, Inc. (MDG) is engaged in the mining and exploration of gold and other precious metals. The company explores gold in the U.S., Chile, Mexico and Peru. Meridian's primary area of operation, the El Penon mine, currently has an annual production potential of about 300,000 ounces of gold. The company also has advanced exploration programs in Chile, Nevada, as well as the Esquel project in Argentina. Meridian expects to spend about $20 million in pursuing its internal growth strategy. Further, MDG has acquired 100% interest in Minera Florida (S.A.) for $100 million. Meridian also owns 40% of the Rossi/Storm project in Nevada (the balance is held by Barrick Gold). Further, the company has acquired 56.7% controlling interest in Agua de la Falda (S.A.), (ADLF). This ADLF acquisition includes the El Hueso, Coya, and Agua de la Falda mines. It also includes the Jeronimo Deposit, which is a downdip extension of the Agua de la Falda deposit. Meridian has also reported positive results for its wholly owned Mercedes Project in Sonora, Mexico, located near Magdalena.
