The New Lira is the currency that replaced the old lira in 2003. The change removed 6 zeros off the end of lira currency.

The chart at left shows the USD/TRY currency pair; the number of Turkish New Lira equivalent to 1 U.S. Dollar (USD).

The "New" addition has now been removed (as of 1 Jan 2009) from the name of the currency and it is now again referred to simply as the "Turkish Lira" or TL
