Oxford Resource Partners (NYSE :OXF) makes steam coal and is the largest producer of surface mined coal in Ohio. They are located in the Northern Appalachia and Illinois Basin regions. The company operates 17 different mines with each of them consisting of less than 15% of their total production.[1]
Coal currently makes up approximately 50% of the US electricity and is expected to remain a major part of the US energy portfolio. However, coal is perceived as relatively dirty energy source and faces regulation from congress. In addition, the company hopes to pay 9% dividends, but this is based on the expectation on stable coal prices.[2]
The company's initial public offering of stock was filed on the New York Stock Exchange and went public on July 14, 2010. It was priced at $18.50, which is within the $18-$20 initial price range.[3]
For FY2009 with year ended 31 December 2009, the company reported total revenues of $230.5 million, a large increase from $193.7 million for FY2008. This corresponds to a 31.6% rise in revenue from 2008 to 2009. Net Income has also risen rapidly from -$2.48M in 2008 to $23.5M in 2009.[1]
