Pageviews (a.k.a. page views) are the number of times that a particular web page has been viewed. Some practitioners separate total page views from "unique" page views, the number of page views from unique users. This distinction helps reduce noise in the data (from one user viewing a page 10 times vs. 10 different users viewing a page 1 time).
Some Internet companies have relied on pageview metrics to show business growth when other accounting metrics (typically profit) were negative.
