The Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc.
During the 1990s PotashCorp expanded by buying up a number of American potash companies including Potash Company of America, Florida Favorite Fertilizer, Texasgulf, and Arcadian Corporation. It is by far the world's largest producer of potash, producing 23% of the world's (and 55% of North America's) supply. It also controls 55% of the world's (and 70% of North American) unused supply, and has long deliberately held back production to keep potash prices high. It is also the world's largest fertilizer producer. The company is the third largest producer of phosphates worldwide by capacity. The company estimates phosphate operations produced 6% of world phosphoric acid production. The company's nitrogen operations are the fourth largest producer of nitrogen products worldwide by capacity and produced 2% of world ammonia production.Today the company owns assets across Canada, the United States, and also in Brazil and the Middle East. North American sales from potash products represented 17% of total sales. North American sales from phosphate products represented 23% of total sales. North American sales from nitrogen products represented 32% of the total.
