The series 6 exam is a test which lets an individual sell mutual funds and annuities.
The test is a shorter, less comprehensive version of the Series 7 exam, but a person who takes the series 6 exam is not allowed to sell as many different products as a person taking the series 7. For example, the series 6 exam does not allow an individual to sell corporate securities such as stocks or bonds, or options.
The test is administered by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), which was previously known as the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), a non-governmental regulatory agency for the securities industry.
Series 6 Test composition The exam lasts 2 hours and 15 minutes and has 100 questions. Test-takers must score 70% to pass.
