This is a good basic description of derivatives. However, derivative products have become so widespread and I think a little more information on the subject would be helpful. The recent financial news is full of companies having to write down assets tied to mortgages. Most of these assets are derivatives like CDOs. Also, some information how large/sophisticated traders/investors use derivatives would be of interest.
